MLM Training - Would You Perform Your Own Surgery?

Brenda recently shared an article with me that she wrote on Network Marketing. In this article she talks about performing surgery. Being a surgical nurse, it drew a vivid picture of the importance of having the knowledge and skills necessary to perform. Hope you enjoy the article:

Did you consider MLM training before you dove into your new Network Marketing Business? Training is absolutely essential to your MLM success.

Assuming you have no knowledge of electricity, would you decide to wire your brand new 3700 square foot home yourself?

How about surgery? Would you sit at the kitchen table with a steak knife and just get instructions from your surgeon over the phone on how to perform your own surgery? I doubt it. Yes that is a commercial.... hilarious once the guy realizes this might not be such a brilliant plan after all.

I realize it is hard to know what type of MLM training will help you succeed. The training takes time away from the building process in some ways, but just as it is essential to lay a strong foundation for your new home before beginning to frame the home.

It is equally important to lay a solid foundation of knowledge about the MLM industry, the company, MLM marketing and management skills before diving headlong into promoting.

My first few years in Network Marketing, my up-line didn't have the same definition of what training meant as I did. I was looking for practical MLM training tips and marketing ideas with substance I could use to build my Network Marketing business.

Those first few years, the training I received was focused mostly on product knowledge, which you do need to a certain extent. Basically they had no other marketing suggestions except to call my 50 friends and family again and again, sit in the mall and cold call.

They never considered my family and friends might not be my target market. I had no duplicable system to follow. My up-line's personality allowed for 99 "no's" to get that one "yes". My personality does not.

I needed a duplicable system. Cold calling in the mall, calling family and friends over and over is not a duplicable system. The rest of the MLM training I received was related more to "how to give a presentation" and "sell the prospect".

Network Marketing is not about "selling" the prospect on your "deal". Network Marketing is a teaching and mentoring business built on building relationships with others and truly trying to help others meet a need.

Helping others meet their needs and goals will help you to meet yours as well! The Golden Rule is quite applicable: "Treat others as you would have them treat you."

MLM training should be as individual as it is essential to the success of the distributor. Each person comes to the MLM industry with different needs, MLM goals and skills. All people can be successful in this business if they understand a few things:

1) They will NOT get rich quickly. (The average time it takes to make a desirable income is 3 to 5 years. Can it be done quicker? Of course!)

2) They WILL be required to WORK in their business. (It will not fall in their lap!)

3) Network Marketing Training and Up-Line support is essential to your business (Most of us can't succeed alone!)

4) The business model of the chosen MLM Company is crucial to the success it's distributors

5) Do you have a duplicable system for attracting prospects to your business?

Are you willing to perform surgery on yourself? If not, wouldn't you want professional MLM training to ensure success in your business?

Brenda Bunney is married with two children. She is a successful network marketer who believes anyone can be successful with the proper tools and mentoring. She enjoys helping others empower themselves with the network marketing skills they need to build a successful business.

How to Know if You are With the Right Company

The following article are excerps from "How to know if you are in the right company" by Mike Lewis;

A lot of people who love the concept of Network Marketing are completely disillusioned about how about their
business is going..Or in most cases, isn’t going!

These folks have read ALL the training materials. They listen to ALL the CD’s. They go to ALL the meetings. They try everything they are told…with little or no results, so they ask their ‘upline sponsoring leader’ for advice and direction, and here’s what they get:
‘You need to work harder….’
‘You need to be more committed…….’
‘You need to go to more meetings……’
‘You need to get used to the rejection…’
‘You need to get outside your comfort zone….’
‘You have to put the rest of your life on hold to achieve success..’
‘Make a list of 100 friends and call them…’
‘You need to get better at ‘closing’ people….’
‘Talk to everyone who comes within 3 feet of you….’
‘Sponsor like crazy to achieve momentum…’
‘You need to take all-out-massive-action….’
‘You need to become a ‘leader’…..
‘You are being negative..Get back to work….’

Have I missed any????? And THIS is what is commonly known as ‘UPLINE SUPPORT’ I have a better word for it….I call it BULLSHIT! Lets get one thing very clear here!

Your success as a Network Marketer has very little to do with what you say or do, but it has an awful lot to do with how you FEEL about what you say or do!

Want to know what the REAL key to success is in Network Marketing?
It has NOTHING to do with the following..
* The Product
* The Pay Plan
* The Company
* The Training
* The Upline
..and if you are thinking I’m wrong..check your ‘BS Meter’!

What’s the ‘secret’?????
There are NO secrets, and there are NO special skills required to become successful at Network Marketing…NONE!
That stuff is ALSO BS! (Sorry MLM Guru’s the truth had to surface sometime!)

There is ONE solution to your problem and that solution has been right under your nose all the time!
You just have to look at why people QUIT..and why people STAY in any Networking company!

The real reason people quit is because of ……. THE WAY THEY FEEL ABOUT HOW THEY HAVE BEEN TREATED!
..It’s simple! This is an all volunteer business..if you DON’T treat people with kindness, with respect, with care, and with gratitude sooner or later they will quit.

If you tell people they are lazy, not committed, need to get out of their comfort-zone, or they have to get used to rejection, or tell them to do things that just don’t work, they WILL quit!

Why wouldn’t they? Who in their right mind would tolerate that BS in an all-volunteer business. So why do people STAY?

The ONLY reason people stay is because of ……THE WAY THEY FEEL ABOUT HOW THEY HAVE BEEN TREATED!
If you treat people with kindness, with respect, with care and with gratitude, THEY WILL NOT QUIT!

I told you it was SIMPLE! Here’s where it can get a little more complex! If you treat people well, they smile a lot.
When they smile a lot, they feel good. When they feel good, people ask them why they are feeling good..and no matter how hard they try they can’t help telling people why they feel good!

Now, do they tell the people they meet all about their wonderful product?
Do they tell them about their wonderful Pay Plan?
Do they tell them about their wonderful Company? Hell NO!
They tell them about this great group of people they got to know who is helping them create their own home based business!
Those people can’t help but ask ..What kind of business?
Do they tell them what kind of business? Hell NO!

They say …’Why don’t you come and meet some of my new friends?…...Who knows..if you ever wanted to start your own home based business they might be able to help you too!’

So they go visit with some of the new friends. Do the new friends tell them about their wonderful product?
Do they tell them about their wonderful Pay Plan? Do they tell them about their wonderful company? Hell NO!
They don’t TELL them anything. They ASK! They ask questions like. Have you ever thought about starting a business of your own? What have you looked at? What was it about that kind of business that you really liked?
Was there anything about it you didn’t like?

If you could design a perfect business for YOU, what would it look like? In short they engage people in conversation just like you would with any new friend. You get to know them by talking about how life is right
now, and how you might like it to be.

They don’t make any presentations..there is no need, unless you are particularly fond of rejection! They answer any questions that surface in an honest, open and direct manner, in much the same way as if you were talking with your best friend!

They simply have a conversation to discover if this person is looking for something that their home-based business idea might fulfill.

So, if the upline that you are with doesn’t support you in finding a way to create your business that works for YOU. OR if the support you are offered is CONDITIONAL on you doing things that you cannot do or don’t work for you. OR if the support you are offered is CONDITIONAL on you saying things that make you feel uncomfortable or don’t work for you.

It’s time to re-evaluate!

Don’t think of it in terms of quitting! Think of it in terms of adjusting your course. If you were sailing in heavy seas and all you could see ahead were storms, storms and more storms, you would be well advised to change
course for sunny skies and calmer waters, right? Then change course!

Go find a group of people in your current company that you really enjoy..Who show you kindness, respect and unconditional support in helping you find a way to build your business that works for YOU! Pretty soon, you will be smiling…Then you will start to feel good..Then someone will ask you why you are feeling good..then you can mention your new friends!

By the way..if you current company doesn’t ‘allow’ cross-line cooperation…RUN! Corporate BS is deeper than upline BS! Go find a company that ENCOURAGES cross-line support..and find a group in that company that fits..for YOU!

Here’s a quote from Zig Ziglar that has supported me on my journey for many years.
‘You can have anything in life you want…if you just help enough other people get what they want!’ You‘ll notice that he doesn’t say..convince..persuade…force..sell..close..arm-twist…or talk to death! He says ‘help’…and to find out how to help..you only have to ASK and LISTEN..there is no telling involved!

Keep Smiling!

MLM Success Tips|10 Simple Tips To Build Your Email List

medium_emailcartoon_1.2.gifIn a day when there is Podcasting, RSS feeds, instant messaging and a multitude of many other clever ways of communicating online, why in the world would you spend your time on building your list with e-mail marketing? It just seems so archaic and ineffective anymore when people are bombarded with spam solicitations.

How about because it works!

• According to research conducted by the Direct Marketing Association, email marketing generated an ROI of $57.25 for every dollar spent on it in 2005. As such, it outperformed all the other direct marketing channels examined, such as print catalogs.

• A report in mid-2005 from JupiterResearch was more conservative, stating that..."when done right, $1 spent on e-mail can generate a $9 return."

Why Email Marketing?

Email marketing generates immediate action: downloads, inquiries, registrations, etc. Informative email newsletters and other emails build awareness, contribute to branding, strengthen relationships, encourage trust and cement loyalty. All in all, email marketing is a pretty good way of going about marketing your business when they are crafted correctly.

10 Simple Tips To Build Your Email List

1. Provide an Insider’s Sneak Peak:
Show potential subscribers a sample of exactly what they will receive in their inbox. This gives people the opportunity to see if you are a “good fit” for them risk-free and in return you’ll gain more qualified leads this way.

2. Ask for the Bare Essentials:
Don’t go overboard asking for information not really needed. The first objective is to get a person to join the list. You can always request more information later as the trust and relationship are built.

3. Give An Instant Bonus Offer:
Give your subscribers incentive to want to join your email list. Offer a free report or an e-book that is delivered to them instantly after subscribing to your email list.

4. Personalize It:
When possible get the first and last name of your subscribers so you can later address them by name in the subject header and/or the body of the email. People like to receive personalized emails because it doesn’t imply a mass email distribution. Words of warning though, use personalization sparingly otherwise it comes across too contrived.

5. Keep Content Relevant:
In the subscriber’s mind, you have to be known for sending high-quality information; otherwise, you will get the old delete button or worse yet be a victim of the unsubscribe click.

6. Avoid Burning The Midnight Oil:
Send your email campaigns during the daytime hours. Marketing emails sent out overnight can get lost in the morning routine clutter.

7. Make It An Easy Read:
Use bullet points and short concise paragraphs. Put lots of “air” or white space around your information. It should be easy to scan and inviting. Nobody has time in their business schedule to read a novel so make sure that your email does not look like chapter 3 in a Stephen King book.

8. Place the Nugget of Gold at the Top of the Email:
Remember, many people don’t scroll. This means you need to pull your best content or a list of your article headlines up into the “first screen”, “above the fold.” This gives your subscriber’s the teaser to dig deeper into your email.

9. Everybody Love FREE Except For Spam Filters:
Don’t use the word “Free” in your copy too often or at all. Spam filters hate that word and often prevent your message from being delivered. If you must use “Free”, embed the word in a graphic because the spam filters cannot read words embedded in graphics or use it VERY sparingly and never in the subject of your email.

10. Be Yourself:
Develop a distinctive tone and personality in your newsletters. But beware; watch how much you talk about yourself. Your subscribers really don’t care that you're a self-made millionaire that studied the formation and impact of algae in some remote South American island. They are there for information, so give it to them.

Great lists aren’t built in a day but email marketing can be very powerful. Both list building and subscriber loyalty takes time…but when you cultivate it wisely, you build relationships, establish loyalty and ultimately grow your business.

Find the MLM Success tip in this story and get a laugh!

"A Yankee lawyer went duck hunting in eastern North Carolina. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence. As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly gentleman asked him what he was doing. The lawyer responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, I'm going into retrieve it."

The old farmer replied. "This is my property, and you are not coming over here."

The indignant lawyer said, "I am one of the best trial attorneys in the U.S. and, if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and take everything!

The old farmer smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we do things here in North Carolina. We settle small disagreements like this with the NC Three-Kick Rule."

The lawyer asked, "What is the NC three-Kick Rule?"

The Farmer replied. "Well, first I kick you three times and then you kick me three times, and so on, back and forth, until someone gives up."

The Yankee attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old southerner. He agreed to abide by the local custom.

The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the city feller. His first kick planted the toe of his heavy work boot into the Yankee lawyer's groin and dropped him to his knees. His second kick nearly wiped the man's nose off his face. The barrister was flat on his belly when the farmer's third kick to a kidney nearly caused him to give up.

The Yankee lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get to his feet and said, "Okay, you old redneck southerner, now it's my turn."

The old North Carolina farmer smiled and said, "Naw, I give up. You can have the duck."

MLM Success Tip | Never Argue With An Idiot!

MLM Succes Tip of the day "Never Argue With An Idiot" is brought to you by Suzanne.

"Why? They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!

Yet, don't we find ourselves doing that every day when we go out and try to get someone into our business? They aren't interested in what we have, but try to convince them that they really need what we have.

Sound familiar? Next time you find yourself doing that, please stop yourself and remember to Never Argue with an Idiot.

I'm not saying they are an idiot, but I am saying not everyone is a prospect. Acutally, most people are not prospects.

I am saying don't try to convince people to join you in your business, it's a no win situation. You end up looking like a salesperson, which everyone hates, and you end up getting battered and rejected which is something you hate!

Get some good, basic MLM Training. You don't know what you don't know and what you don't know could kill you in this business!

Remember expensive doesn't mean good, find something affordable. How about Mentoring For Free?"

Want Network Marketing Success? Tell Stories!

Want Network Marketing Success? Tell Stories!

Everyone loves a good story. Stories can teach us about some aspect of life. A compelling story about Network Marketing can not only engage a prospect but also can clarify concepts that otherwise would be too sensitive. Stories are a safe way to talk about wants, fears and desires.

Stories Create Curiosity

Using stories to create curiosity with a prospect will keep them on the edge of their chair. The right story can speak directly to their heart. Keeping the interest of the prospect tied to you, allows them to share their thoughts. For an example, let’s say you would like to share the idea of time-freedom with a prospect. You could start off by sharing your dream, ‘Well, one of my dreams was to wake up in the morning without an alarm clock. I know that a lot of people hate to wake up to an alarm clock, and every morning I used to wake up to an alarm clock. I'd roll over and hit the snooze button just for an extra 10 minutes of sleep. Then I’d get up and turn it off. And now, I still get up early sometimes, but I don't use an alarm clock. Instead, my eyes just open up! That's the way to wake up, when your eyes just pop open. And I don't know what some of your dreams are?’ I’ve shared my story with them and now I’m asking about their dreams.

Facts Tell but Stories Sell

You have heard that ‘facts tell but stories sell.’ Stories help convince and ground those facts. That’s why testimonials work.

Stories are Shortcuts that Speak to our Emotions

We are wired to respond to stories. A lot of times we can relate to a character or the subject in the story. Stories can be used to get a point a cross without being confrontational. For an example, let’s say you would like to explain the law of cause and effect and how sometimes this can produce a result that causes a bigger problem. You could talk about the old cartoon with Porky Pig having trouble sleeping because of a squeak and informs the Bell Man, Daffy Duck to do something about the noise. Daffy goes out and gets a cat to chase the source of the squeak, a mouse, out of the room and receives a tip. The cat then starts to meow. Porky complains. Daffy gets a dog to chase the cat away and receives a tip. The dog then begins to bark. Porky complains. Daffy gets a lion to scare away the dog away and receives a tip. The lion begins to roar. Porky complains. Daffy gets an elephant to chase the lion away and receives a tip. The elephant begins to trumpet. Porky complains. Daffy gets a mouse to frighten the elephant away. And now Porky has the squeak from the mouse.

Everyone has a Story. What’s Yours?

Think about your own dream and how you can use it to tell a story. Regardless of who you are, everyone wants equality, freedom, worth and love. Network Marketing is about creating new possibilities for people’s lives.

Network Marketing involves building relationships with people. It’s about partnering with others to help them realize their dream. Stories can help paint pictures and spread those ideas. People remember stories. Maybe the only thing you will recall from this article will be the story of Porky Pig and Daffy Duck!

May your Network Marketing experience include telling stories. And may your warm smile light someone's heart. Have FUN!!
