Mind Follows Mood
Mind over Mood by Marla
For years, MLM Discovery Central had 3 "Life Phrases" that have guided me.
1. Emotions are REAL but they're not always RIGHT (so don't trust them
until you've examined them closely)
2. It is WELL with my SOUL (because my soul is safe in God. So no matter
what happens, I'll be OK)
3. And it came to pass (Luke 2:1)......(It didn't come to STAY. No matter
how bad it is (or how good, unfortunately), it will pass)
Recently I've added a fourth phrase. It's something I've always known, but
have just decided it's worthy to be included in my Life phrases.
That new Life Phrase is, "Where the Mind goes, the Mood follows." This
phrase, of course, leads right into Life Phrase #1.
This new phrase has inspired me to write a new post on my blog. I hope you
find it helpful.

Network Marketing Skills| Color Wheel
Having skills in Network Marketing will enhance your success.
Let me explain:
*You can improve your attitude
*Build a strong believe in your business
*Set goals
*Be positive
*Get focused
*Be persistent
But with out skill, you will crash and burn.
For an example; Let's say, it's a beautiful day and a buddy of yours says "Let's go flying" He has his own plane and has flown all over the world.
You say "Why, yes, that sounds like fun. " As the plane climbs higher and higher, something happens to your friend. He has a heartache. He loses control of the plane.
Someone needs to take over. You are it! You have never flown before.
You are really motived to land the plane safely. You are SO focused. Your one and only goal is to get the plane on the ground in one piece.
You need real skills to land the plane.
So in Network Marketing you need skill so you can work efficiently.
Without skills you will crash and burn.
The basic skill all Network Marketers need is to understand and communicate with people.

Does aggressive selling work in Network Marketing. Listen to what Sue has to say about MLM training on aggressive selling.
Does aggressive selling really work?
I'm sure we've all been exposed to a pushy salesperson at one time in our life. This type of manipulated selling is exactly what many Internet coaches teach. The problem is it just doesn't work for most people.
To be succeessful with this approach you have to be a certain type of personality. To better understand the 4 personality types please refer to the the article Network Marketing Tips and How To Deal With Different Personalities Many very successful internet marketing coaches teach this aggressive type of selling. But as hard as we try, it just doesn't work for us. Why, doesn't it? Mainly because only 15% of the population have the corresponding personality to pull it off successfully.
After my own encounter with this type of salesperson I found myself wondering do these people really have a lot of success with this approach?
If you believe them, they make thousands of dollars a year. Success or not I don't think the reputation that they impart on salespeople in general is not a very good one.
My own experience with this type of salesperson became my motive for writing this article.
It all began one night as I sat watching TV, suddenly the phone rings and I make the mistake of answering it.
After introducing himself he begins with all the usual sales questions. His first question is not are you busy but "Are you currently trying to build your business?" What gave him that idea? He followed it with the usual drill of questions like
"What problems have you encountered with your business?"
"What do you do for a living?"
"Are you serious about building your business?"
And last but not least, "If I can show you how to add 20 new recruits into your network marketing business would this be something you'd want to take a look at?"
His last statement had me feeling a little like deja vu. I couldn't help myself but had to say, "Wow, I feel like I've heard this conversation before. It's sounds just like what I've been told to say."
His voice expressed obvious annoyance and asked me, "Why, do you counsel people?"
I quickly respond with "No, it's just everything you just said sounds like a script that I've hear many internet marketing people teach. It asks the same questions and ends with "If I could show you how to make $500 extra a month is that something you would be interested in?"
Well, he says,"I don't have a script." I can't believe he actually had me feeling guilty for that comment because I ended up apologizing. "Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you."
Somehow after my apology he convinced me to listen to his 45 minute conference call on building my network marketing business.
He told me the call was starting in 35 minutes and he would call me back right before it starts. I guess just in case I might feel the need to blow him off of something like that. He also tells me to take notes and to call him back right after the call. He gives me his number and has me read it back to him. I really hate when people do that. What if I didn't really write it down and just had great memory recall.
Anyway he calls me back in 35 minutes just as promised and reminds me to take notes because he will be asking me some questions when I call him back.
I call the number keeping an open mind thinking perhaps I will discover some juicy little tidbit that I can use to help me build my online business.
Remembering it now, my only thought is that it's 45 minutes of time that I'll never get back in my life.
Well I certainly don't want to give you the impression that I know everything already. If that was the case I wouldn't of spent 45 plus minutes listening to someone rambling on and on.
Everything he talked about were things I've heard before. Things like having a "Why".
A why is your main reason for having to succeed. It's not just a frivilous statement like "I want to make more money."
Others things he discussed is getting targeted people to your opportunity, creating a web-site having a landing page. There wasn't even one thing that I felt I hadn't already heard and spent hundreds of dollars on already.
At the end of the call it was all about signing up for the training course. They had 3 packages. The lowest was $695 and the highest was $1,995. Ouch, sounded like a lot of money to me.
Feeling tired and disappointed after the call I really didn't have any desire to talk to him. I couldn't help thinking that he would call me if I didn't return his call so I did the unthinkable, I turned my ringer off.
Feeling relieved the next day that I able to avoid him, he ruins it and calls me. Damn I didn't look at my caller ID first. Oh well I think, I will just politely tell him no and it will be over.
The first thing he says is "I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you yesterday I was really busy." I then replied "I'm sorry I didn't call you but I'm just not interested."
He replied with a amazed tone in his voice and said "Your not interested in growing your business?" I then said "No, I just not interested in signing up for your course."
He then went on to tell me more about himself and how he had many failures in his life until he found this earth shattering course (my words not his).
That's when I told him no thanks again, I said "I'm sure the course is great but I'm not convinced the course had any new information in it that I haven't already heard."
Instead of then dealing with my real objection, "What's in it for me?" he amazingly continued with "Which one of the packages were most appealing to you?"
It was like he didn't hear me. I said none of them I just don't have the money. (not the real reason just thinking of some other response to get rid of him)
He then asks "If I could write you a check for $2,000 dollars would you be interested."
I already know where he's going with this and just say "Your not going to write me any check so I'm not interested, I'm sorry."
That's when he said "Hey that's O.K. my income is fine, you're the one missing the opportunity."
He finally accepted defeat but it amazed me that he never really dealt with my true objection. What's in it for me? How will I benefit from it? All he did was tell me how he found success with it.
Instead of dealing with my only real objection he was only concerned with the sale.
A better salesperson may have responded with something like, "I totally understand your point, I'm not sure if it is a good match for you. Let me ask you a couple of questions?" He would then ask what areas of business do I feel like I need the most help in? He needed to deal with my objection before trying to push me to buy.
A big mistake on his part because normally I'm very impulsive and don't need a push to purchase anything that I feel will benefit me or my business. By not answering my objection he lost what could of been a easy sale.
So if your making a ton of money with an aggressive sales approach, make sure your not skirting the objections focusing only on a sale. If you address these objections your sales will get even better.

Have you ever considered being mentored by someone? Imagine going on Safari in Africa. You may not want to go it alone. Unless you are brave (and stupid), you will most likely ask for a tour guide. (Light bulb goes on!!!) The tour guide is a mentor.
Such is taking on a new venture such as MLM or network marketing. Your success is determined by having a qualified tour guide. You may not realize that the animals are stalking you until it is too late.
You are not prey to the jungle unless you try to go it alone. Your success is determined by your willingness to ask for help. To create success in MLM is no different. Make sure that you find someone who has been in the jungle. Someone who is qualified to educate you and protect you from the elements?

Network Marketing Training| Which are you, a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?
Today's Network Marketing Training is based on a story:
A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how her new Network Marketing business was so hard. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as soon as one problem was solved, a new one arose. She wanted to give up.
Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.
In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.
Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see."
"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.
Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, “What does it mean, Mother?"
Her Mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity – hot boiling water. Each reacted differently.
The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.
The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.
The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.
"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?"
Think of this: WHICH ARE YOU?
How do you handle adversities in Network Marketing? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?
Are you the carrot that seems strong, but with adversity do you wilt and become soft and lose your strength?
Are you the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Has your fluid spirit become hardened and stiff? From the outside your shell looks the same but on the inside have you become bitter, negative and smelly?
Or are you like the coffee bean? The bean actually changed the hot water. The hot water is the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. Are you are like the bean, when things are at their worst; you get better and change the situation around you?
Once you develop Network Marketing skills and understand what you need to do to be successful, it's just a matter of taking action. Just like the coffee bean changed the hot water and released its fragrance for others to enjoy, you can change people's lives for the better.
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you successful.

Making Money With The Compensation Plan
No one ever starts a home based business in network marketing saying, "Geez, I want to own my own business, work it, and not earn a dime or be paid pennies for my efforts." Of course not. We all start our business to generate income and fullfill our personal "whys".
Network marketing is a wonderful opportunity to earn additional money, but you better understand how you get paid. Compensation plans vary from company to company, some are linear plans others are residual plans.
One plan can keep you working until you finally decide to retire and the other can offer you the opportunity to accomplish you goals such as having more time, taking vacations and enjoying family while making money. What type of compensation payout does your company have? Linear or residual?

What does MLM Training and Marketing have in common?
When it comes to MLM training in general, companies or uplines do not provide appropriate training in marketing. After signing up with an MLM, the typical training given about marketing is, make up your 100 name list, get 100 no's, let's make some 3 way calls or your mouth is your office, open it up and talk to everyone you meet.
What does it all mean?
Let's take a look at what the term marketing means. After all, the word marketing is in the name of the industry, yet sometimes it seems not many have any idea how to actually market! According to Webster's dictionary, marketing is "the act or process of buying and selling in a market."
How many friends you got?
There are many different ways this can be accomplished. Yes, you can talk to family, friends, 100 people you know, etc. The problem with this is:
1. Many people are uncomfortable doing this
2. Many people don't know 100 people. The truth is we live in a circle and, while we may have that many acquaintances, they aren't people we really know.
3. After we run out of the "usual suspects" where is a network marketer to go?
Have you tried my cooking?
Let's face the facts. If I were going to open a restaurant, would I ask the people I know to come and enjoy a meal? Of course I would. Would they come? Some would, some wouldn't….you haven't tried my cooking!
But, after all of the hoopla is gone, and the people I know have visited and had a meal, what would I do? If you listen to many in MLM who train their downlines to market this way, I'd be up the creek without a paddle!
Frozen in the headlights!
This is when networkers are typically told to move to the next step and talk to anyone within 3 feet. Usually one of two things happen. They either freeze in their tracks because that is too uncomfortable for them or they try it, and hate the way it makes them feel. Either way, they are done and never heard from again.
Basic MLM training in marketing
If uplines would support their downlines just a little bit, give them some basic MLM training in marketing these dropouts could be avoided.
With the advent of the internet, there is no reason networkers should have to rely only on people they come in face to face contact with in order to expand and grow their business. There are forums, blogging, and article writing available to market your MLM. There are also many networking groups like Direct Matches and even My Space which can be utilized to grow and market your business.
So, if your upline says make your 100 name list, live by the 3 foot rule or talk to your family and friends, and that makes you uncomfortable, find a way that's comfortable for you to do the business. Talk to your upline, see if they can do some MLM training on different ways to market your products or opportunity.
Proper MLM training on marketing your business could make the difference between you being a MLM dropout or a superstar!

MLM Success | Do You Feel Like a Failure?
Folks who join a MLM company do so to have MLM Success. Yet many folks feel like a failure and they cannot put their finger on the reason. Listen to what a stay at home Mom has to say:
"I'm sure this MLM failure feeling is one in which most everyone in MLM can identify! Why is it that 95% of those who try MLM experience failure?
Let me tell you some of the the reasons I've seen for MLM Failure.
The first reason, and by far the biggest reason for MLM Failure in my opinion, is people are told if they want success, they need to change.
For example, if you are someone who is not pushy and you don't want to make a 100 name list, or talk to everyone within 3 feet of you about your business, then you "don't want it bad enough".
A person may try to do this in the beginning, but ultimately they will struggle and fail because they are not being true to themselves. No one can deny who they are and have any type of sustained success.
So the biggest reason I have seen for MLM Failure are people who are in the wrong type of MLM System. They are in a Red Personality system. Only 15% of the population are Red's and of that 15% only about half of those can even do what most MLM Systems require you to do.
Be true to yourself because ultimately that is what will bring you success!
Another reason I've seen people struggle is they don't have the proper MLM skills training. Knowing how to build relationships is key. Asking questions to build those relationships takes even more skill. Getting the correct training, not the MLM Hype Training, will lead you out of the MLM Failure forest!
Still another reason is they don't understand their MLM compensation plan and the type of behavior it drives in the field. Many MLM Compensation plans drive the recuit, recruit, recruit mentality.
Don't get me wrong, that is important to growing your business, but do you know how many people it will take in your MLM compensation plan to make the money you want?
I've seen different MLM compensation plans that take as little as less than 400 people to over 15,000 people to make $10K per month.
Who do you think has the easier time making that amount of money? Which plan is easier for part timers, about 95% of your team, to make the money they want to earn? Which plan do you think has less turnover of distributors?

Network Marketing Training | Is Your Affiliate Agreement Terminable at Will ?
Network Marketing Training on affiliate agreement includes understanding legal issues that can hurt you. Please read this article written by "The Full Monte":
Is Your Affiliate Agreement Terminable at Will?
I don't like delivering bad news. So, at the risk of sounding redundant, I can't stress enough how important it is to read and understand your Policies and Procedures. Don't shoot the messenger.
Beware of the "Renewal Clause"
Often when helping someone evaluate their Policies and Procedures, I unfortunately have to reveal that they have actually signed a contract allowing their company to terminate their Distribution Agreement and steal their paycheck, solely at the Company's discretion and requiring no explanation on the Company's part whatsoever.
Examine your P&P's. (If you don't have a copy, GET ONE! It is required by law that they be provided to you.) If your company has a yearly renewal clause, it is very likely that it may be followed by something like this:
"The Company reserves the right to reject a Distributor's application to renew."
Or like this:
"The Company may elect not to renew a Representative's Agreement upon its anniversary date."
No reason needed and no explanation required. Don't be surprised…this is more common than you might think.
Even worse…
Agreement Terminable at Will
The following is an actual clause in an actual P&P with an actual company that actually believes they should be able to get away with this. And guess what - they actually can if you sign their Distributor Agreement.
"You or (name of company) are not required to have any reason, nor do your or (name of company) have to claim or prove any cause to terminate this relationship. If and when the relationship is terminated, you shall have neither claim against (name of company) nor any right to claim or collect lost profits, lost opportunities or any other damages."
Unbelievable! Boggles the mind, doesn't it? And if you are so naïve as to think that your company would never do that to you, wake up! What makes you so special? Why would they put it in there in the first place if they never intended to use it? Oh, they'll probably leave you alone until you have built up a substantial monthly income and they decide that they're paying you too much.
Don't worry though, you won't be alone. You certainly wouldn't be the first victim of this corporate crime. With a little investigative work I'm sure you can locate the carcassed remains of victims along the internet highway.

Network Marketing Training – Marketing Tips with Knock out Headlines
One of the skills you will need in Network Marketing Training is knowing how to market yourself and your product. Ask yourself, 'who is your target market.' Once you have established who is your target market, you are ready to write attractive knock out headlines.
In Marketing Headlines are every thing.
One of the basic marketing skills is writing a simple add. You can place your add either offline (newspapers, post cards, sales letter) or online (google adwords, your website, your blog and your articles…)
The easiest way to write an ad is to imitate what we call “swipe files”. Basically, imitate prior great headlines that worked long time ago and still work today.
I will give you some examples from a book written by Dan Kennedy.

Leadership is a process by which a leader influences people to convert their purpose or dream (their why) into reality with and through their cooperation that they would not have accomplished on their own. Leaders carry out this process by applying their leadership attributes, such as beliefs, values, ethics, character, knowledge, and skills. A network marketing leader touches people before they can ever change their life. They touch them emotionally, and in the heart. A leader has a servant’s heart and is there to help take people to a whole new level.
What does a Leader look like?
Leaders show an air of simple elegance and refinement in attitude and form. They appear physically, emotionally and spiritually strong, yet they seem to have even greater strength in reserve. They are poised, coordinated and balanced. Their command is effortless, assured and confident. They are calm and alert. They look and feel good. They hold their heads up, shoulders back and eyes forward. They breathe deeply filling their belly with air slowly and more fully with each breath. Their muscles are relaxed and most physical movements are loose, light, fluid, agile and flexible. They speak with a soft voice in a thoughtful manner, rarely interrupt and are brief and to the point. There is power in their voice and words. They walk with a purpose yet are not rushed. They have a firm handshake. Their eyes are friendly, their demeanor is respectful and their smile begins in their mind. They exhibit both style and class.
Who can become a leader?
Good leaders are made not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience. Leaders are not people with exceptional talent; they are people who have learned from their mistakes and get up and try again. A leader works hard. Leaders do not grow in a comfort zone.
How to become a Network Marketing leader that will ensure your success?
*Leaders are readers.
Read quality books, books that motivate and inspire you. Set aside at least 15 minutes daily for quiet time. Think of it as a gift you give yourself. As step one, I recommend reading Success in 10 Steps.
*Know yourself and seek self-improvement.
Address your limitations. Losers make promises but leaders make it happen.
* Learn effective communication skills.
Speak with and not at people. Learn to use people’s names. Be an active listener. Look at the person who is talking. Do not interrupt or fidget. Be aware of their body language. Sometimes just be silent. Think twice and speak once.
* Ask questions and observe.
Questions are stepping-stones to self-improvement. Remember, the only meaningless question is the one not asked.
*Study people.
Learn their different personalities, listen for their hot spots. Observe how others express themselves.
*Learn from past experience.
View mistakes as opportunities to grow.
*Join a Mastermind group.
*Learn marketing skills.
* Develop secretary skills, stay organized.
* Manage your time wisely.
* Become an expert in your field.
Leaders will express themselves in the following ways
Leaders will be honorable, honesty, competent, candid, consistent, straightforward, loyal, determined, calm, trustworthy, non-judgmental, respectful and ethical. They will have integrity, courage, imagination, endurance, strength of will, self-confidence, compassion and a sense of direction. They will keep their promises and fulfill their commitments. Their words will match their deeds. They will not be self-righteous.
*Leaders know their people and look out for their well-being. They will truly love them.
*Leaders speak with purpose in a clear and precise manner. They believe in their own words. The humor they incorporate adds interest to their speeches. They create interest with word pictures that have power and purpose.
*Leaders build bridges of tolerance and understanding. They attack the argument and not the person. Long term relationships are almost always more important than short-term problems. They are active peacemakers.
*Leaders make everyone feel important. They treat all people with deference. One may react to them rudely, selfishly and with malice but leaders will remain courteous.
* Leaders make an unwavering decision to go to the top.
*Leaders help others identify and develop their strengths. They will be quick to praise and slow to criticize.
*Leaders seek new experiences and adventures. They are open to new ideas for a seemingly small idea is often the nidus of a bigger reality.
*Leaders are persistent, they are willing to stand alone and are prepared to confront resistance. They take reasonability for themselves. They bounce back from disappointments and adapt to change.
* Leaders step forward when most others gladly step back. Why? Because they know that courage grows with action. Fear is learned and must be unlearned. Without fear, there can be no courage. Fear provides the opportunity to grow.
*Leaders are problem solvers. They face the difficulties and deal with them by making wise decisions.
*Leaders give books as presents. A good book is one of the greatest gifts to inspire someone.

Communication Skills in Network Marketing
Good communication skills will build relationships which are essential to Network Marketing.
How well do you communicate?
Communications experts tell us that only 10% of our communications are represented by what we say, 30% by our sounds and 60% by our body language.
Communication is about our body language and facial expressions, how well we listen, respecting the opinion of others and knowing when to stop talking to let others speak.
What does it mean to really listen?
Real listening is an active process that involves hearing, understanding and judging.
A good listener is not just a silent receptacle but is also one who is passively receiving the thoughts and feelings of others.
Did you know that thoughts move about four times as fast as your speech? To listen effectively requires that you maintain a considerable amount of self-control and concentration. This is especially important for our Blue friends who want to tell us all their thoughts at once and in no particular order. Bless their hearts.
How often do you have to ask someone to repeat himself because you could not remember a point they had made earlier in the conversation?
Was there noise and verbal clutter in your mind?
Good listening requires the temporary suspension of all unrelated thoughts. In order to become an effective listener, you have to learn to manage what goes on in your own mind. Give your full attention to the person who is speaking. Make sure your mind is focused. Let the person finish before you begin to talk. Listen not only to the words but to the speakers tone and feelings.
Let’s say you are talking to a prospect and your prospect tells you "I'm just not interested." What do you say? I have heard some Network Marketers respond to people’s objection with what they call a ‘million dollar comeback’. It sounds something like this, “If I could show you a way to …….. would you be interested?” Are they really listening to what the prospect is saying? When someone says NO they mean NO. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and decision.
Instead communicate with no agenda. Do not try to get them into your deal. Listen to understand their needs. Real listening will help you identify if they want help. They may not want help!
Would you like to know what a “No” sounds like?
Let’s say you are promoting health products. You are in conversation with a person who is complaining about health issues. Ask them, “have you ever considered doing something about it?” A “No” might sound like this:
“Well, I’m under Doctor’s care …”
or
“Maybe.”
or
“If I take this product and get better, I won’t have anything to complain about. My husband won’t love me and my kids won’t talk to me anymore.”
Your prospect has just told you they are not interested. Your prospect may need your product but they do not want it. Let them be. Do you want to become the pushy-aggressive sale person everyone runs from? Save yourself from rejection. Be polite and courteous.
It has been said, people do not care how much you know until they see how much you care. Real listening involves caring for people. Listening is a precious gift. It builds friendships and ensures understanding. Having real listening skills is extremely valuable and often determines your level of success in Network Marketing.
