Communication Skills in Network Marketing
Good communication skills will build relationships which are essential to Network Marketing.
How well do you communicate?
Communications experts tell us that only 10% of our communications are represented by what we say, 30% by our sounds and 60% by our body language.
Communication is about our body language and facial expressions, how well we listen, respecting the opinion of others and knowing when to stop talking to let others speak.
What does it mean to really listen?
Real listening is an active process that involves hearing, understanding and judging.
A good listener is not just a silent receptacle but is also one who is passively receiving the thoughts and feelings of others.
Did you know that thoughts move about four times as fast as your speech? To listen effectively requires that you maintain a considerable amount of self-control and concentration. This is especially important for our Blue friends who want to tell us all their thoughts at once and in no particular order. Bless their hearts.
How often do you have to ask someone to repeat himself because you could not remember a point they had made earlier in the conversation?
Was there noise and verbal clutter in your mind?
Good listening requires the temporary suspension of all unrelated thoughts. In order to become an effective listener, you have to learn to manage what goes on in your own mind. Give your full attention to the person who is speaking. Make sure your mind is focused. Let the person finish before you begin to talk. Listen not only to the words but to the speakers tone and feelings.
Let’s say you are talking to a prospect and your prospect tells you "I'm just not interested." What do you say? I have heard some Network Marketers respond to people’s objection with what they call a ‘million dollar comeback’. It sounds something like this, “If I could show you a way to …….. would you be interested?” Are they really listening to what the prospect is saying? When someone says NO they mean NO. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and decision.
Instead communicate with no agenda. Do not try to get them into your deal. Listen to understand their needs. Real listening will help you identify if they want help. They may not want help!
Would you like to know what a “No” sounds like?
Let’s say you are promoting health products. You are in conversation with a person who is complaining about health issues. Ask them, “have you ever considered doing something about it?” A “No” might sound like this:
“Well, I’m under Doctor’s care …”
or
“Maybe.”
or
“If I take this product and get better, I won’t have anything to complain about. My husband won’t love me and my kids won’t talk to me anymore.”
Your prospect has just told you they are not interested. Your prospect may need your product but they do not want it. Let them be. Do you want to become the pushy-aggressive sale person everyone runs from? Save yourself from rejection. Be polite and courteous.
It has been said, people do not care how much you know until they see how much you care. Real listening involves caring for people. Listening is a precious gift. It builds friendships and ensures understanding. Having real listening skills is extremely valuable and often determines your level of success in Network Marketing.

Overcoming Obstacles in Network Marketing
Giants have many faces and are unique to you.
They may be a lack of resources. You may not have the finances, connections, training or opportunities you need.
It may be an opposing individual, perhaps a significant other that actively works against you. It is not easy to stand up against those we love and care about.
It may be an intimidating circumstance. This is a situation that is beyond your control. For example, you may think that you are too young or too old. Perhaps you stutter.
It may be that you out of your comfort zone. You have never done Network Marketing before. This is new adventure which requires different skills from your other occupation.
Perhaps you are encountering a series of unexpected trails, delays or setbacks and disappointment has set in.
The biggest obstacle of all is unbelief. Unbelief is much more dangerous to you than any other giant. The struggle is within yourself … your own self- talk and your own set of beliefs.
Why do we have to face giants?
Giants are there as primary growing opportunities. The experience may be painful, but it is the result of the experience that counts. The experience has happened for an important reason: to reshape you from the inside out… think of it as training for Greatness. It is an invaluable season of preparation. Do not buy into the lie “it’s too hard” or “it takes too long” or “it’s not possible.”
Do you know the single best way to develop into a leader is to take yourself out of your safe environment, away from the people you know and place yourself in a new area such as Network Marketing?
If you feel you are in way over your head, have demanding challenges, tons of pressure and face risk of failure or loss… then it is more likely that you will emerge a dynamic leader. Be encouraged. For every problem there is a solution. For every window that closes a door will open. Take courage … even when you feel afraid.
So fellow Network Marketer, is there a giant rising before you right now? Mr., Mrs. or Miss. Warrior, isn’t it time to fight back? Reach for your destination now with all your heart. Make your crossing for a wonderful future is waiting.

New Year Resolutions for the Network Marketing
Where did the year go and what did you accomplished in your Network Marketing Business?
It is 2006. A new year is beginning. Network Marketers can use this time to reflect on the past, evaluate the present and plan for the future.
It can be a chance to evaluate where you are, and where you want to be in the year ahead.
Many Network Marketers set goals for the coming year.
I would like to suggest before you write down your goals for 2006, ask yourself ‘do I have an “I Can” attitude?’
Your attitude can be your best friend or your worse enemy.
An “I Can” attitude is powerful and invigorating. Starting today, if you want to change where you are, change your attitude.
Begin by changing what you think and what you say. You can choose to leave behind the old ugly feelings or any thing else you do not want in your life. You can choose to change and replace those feeling with new up lifting ones like patience and confidence.
An “I Can” attitude can be the difference between the person who accomplishes and the person that does not.
The other choice you have is to continue to do what you have always done. But remember you will continue to get what you always have gotten.
So to change your rewards in life, you must have an "I Can" attitude.
After all, when it is all said and done, it is really up to you. The only change that really matters is a change of heart.
Life is precious so enjoy it every step of the way.

Want Network Marketing Success? Tell Stories!
Everyone loves a good story. Stories can teach us about some aspect of life. A compelling story about Network Marketing can not only engage a prospect but also can clarify concepts that otherwise would be too sensitive. Stories are a safe way to talk about wants, fears and desires.
Stories Create Curiosity
Using stories to create curiosity with a prospect will keep them on the edge of their chair. The right story can speak directly to their heart. Keeping the interest of the prospect tied to you, allows them to share their thoughts. For an example, let’s say you would like to share the idea of time-freedom with a prospect. You could start off by sharing your dream, ‘Well, one of my dreams was to wake up in the morning without an alarm clock. I know that a lot of people hate to wake up to an alarm clock, and every morning I used to wake up to an alarm clock. I'd roll over and hit the snooze button just for an extra 10 minutes of sleep. Then I’d get up and turn it off. And now, I still get up early sometimes, but I don't use an alarm clock. Instead, my eyes just open up! That's the way to wake up, when your eyes just pop open. And I don't know what some of your dreams are?’ I’ve shared my story with them and now I’m asking about their dreams.
Facts Tell but Stories Sell
You have heard that ‘facts tell but stories sell.’ Stories help convince and ground those facts. That’s why testimonials work.
Stories are Shortcuts that Speak to our Emotions
We are wired to respond to stories. A lot of times we can relate to a character or the subject in the story. Stories can be used to get a point a cross without being confrontational. For an example, let’s say you would like to explain the law of cause and effect and how sometimes this can produce a result that causes a bigger problem. You could talk about the old cartoon with Porky Pig having trouble sleeping because of a squeak and informs the Bell Man, Daffy Duck to do something about the noise. Daffy goes out and gets a cat to chase the source of the squeak, a mouse, out of the room and receives a tip. The cat then starts to meow. Porky complains. Daffy gets a dog to chase the cat away and receives a tip. The dog then begins to bark. Porky complains. Daffy gets a lion to scare away the dog away and receives a tip. The lion begins to roar. Porky complains. Daffy gets an elephant to chase the lion away and receives a tip. The elephant begins to trumpet. Porky complains. Daffy gets a mouse to frighten the elephant away. And now Porky has the squeak from the mouse.
Everyone has a Story. What’s Yours?
Think about your own dream and how you can use it to tell a story. Regardless of who you are, everyone wants equality, freedom, worth and love. Network Marketing is about creating new possibilities for people’s lives.
Network Marketing involves building relationships with people. It’s about partnering with others to help them realize their dream. Stories can help paint pictures and spread those ideas. People remember stories. Maybe the only thing you will recall from this article will be the story of Porky Pig and Daffy Duck!
